I had the pleasure of hosting Be Nimble Co. "The Kitchen Sink". The first of it's kind a trade show in Indianapolis,IN with 9 of Be Nimble Alumni showcasing their brands. It actually allowed you the opportunity to get to know the owners and shop with their brands. The 9 brands showcases were The Botanical Bar, My Sister's Keeper, MELI, Skin I'm In Beauty Essentials, Rose of Sharon, Hello Beautiful Hair Professional, Rojorganics, Feel Better Naked, & D'Vine Beauty Bar. Each brand was 100% Black owned and you know how much I loved that.
There was so many interactive stations all themed around "the kitchen sink". When you are growing up in the black culture, the kitchen sink was much more than where you washed your dishes; it the place you rinsed your hair and talked all about the big dreams to get you out of your normal life. The Kitchen sink felt like the place you washed your fears away and stand up for your dreams. That's what I saw at the event.
We even had a special guest in the house, Ms. DonYe Taylor. The creative philosopher, Consultant, and a member of the 2023 Forbes "30 Under 30" class who is changing the way people define and define and express their creativity. Recently, she introduced her creativity philosophy, "level 2" - A 5-step creative process that unlocks the creativity in everyone. One of the takeaways I took for myself is not to see everything like everyone else would see it. For example, you are starting a business and your first mind is you want to get a business plan and get people to support your business. That could absolutely work but is that Level 2? Did you think outside of the obvious? Could you draw more attention to your business if you did a community resource fair for the audience who would reap the benefit.
