Hey hey! It's Xaveriya , one of the Polished Partners and let me tell you about the long awaited and anticipated Boss Babe Brunch that took place on June 2nd , 2024. Arriving at the Madam CJ Walker building, I’ve personally counted down the days leading up to the event because of how excited I was! This was my first ever Boss Babe Brunch I have attended and let me tell you… Mariah Oliver did not disappoint! Mariah Oliver is the CEO and Founder of Boss Babe Network which is soon to become M Boss. Walking into the building I was greeted by a concierge and was guided to the main showroom , getting off the elevator … My jaw dropped! Seeing all different women of all ages attend this event made my heart warm knowing that not only will I obtain new knowledge but also seasoned knowledge that can help my business and my personal brand grow! Everyone was dressed so beautifully and in pink , which is obviously my favorite color!
This event was ticket based so you did have to purchase a spot ahead of time in order to enter the event, however I can say I will be attending the Boss Babe Brunch in 2025!
Walking in I was greeted with a goodie bag with discounts from this year’s sponsors and bottomless mimosas? Can this get any better? In fact it did because we were fed a divine brunch menu from Paul's Kitchen! The menu consisted of mini pancakes , shrimp and grits , eggs , sausage - literally all of your breakfast essentials! Not only was the food delicious but it is included in your ticket!
After everyone fixed their plate , we all ate while listening to the guest speakers of the day. Hosted by Alexis Rogers , her sweet, energetic yet humorous voice gave everyone a laugh throughout the entire event! Boss Babe Network invited a few talented women to the stage to speak on their businesses whose stories were also motivating to hear.
Kionna Louis Walker, one of the keynote speakers had by far the most touching story … she made me tear up because I could personally put myself in her shoes. She started off telling us that in school she was the black student in her architecture class and when speaking to her professor he told her “dead to her face” that becoming an architect would be too hard for Kionna and that she couldn't achieve it so she should find something else to do career wise. Kionna said "yes it hurt her feelings but that just put fuel in her gas tank!" Years later another professor told her something similar to find something else to do and yet again that didn't stop Kionna. Today she is a registered architect in the state of Indiana and the CEO of Next Great Architects LLC. She has worked with multiple schools & libraries in teaching others about architecture and providing them the support Kionna. It was very touching!
Other great speakers such as Catherine Esselman who is the CEO of Cat Counseling and her main speciality is in commercial real estate. She is also the founder of Startup 317. Leslie Bailey is the CEO and Founder of the Maven Space : a coworking space made for bold women.
